Tablelands Regional Council – DRFA Road Restoration Works

Cheshire Contractors were engaged by Tablelands Regional Council to undertake the restoration of multiple roads damaged during the Northern and Central Queensland Monsoon and Flooding Event from December 2022 to March 2023. These roads, located in remote areas and mountainous ranges, required detailed restoration work to bring them back to safe and functional standards.
The scope of the work included traffic management, environmental controls, drainage repairs, earthworks, pavement reconstruction, and sealed pavement repairs. Due to the challenging terrain and limited manoeuvring space on some roads, the project required careful planning and precision.
Despite these challenges, including the remote locations, Cheshire Contractors completed the project to the satisfaction of both the Superintendent and Council. Our ability to efficiently coordinate and execute the work resulted in high praise from the client for the quality and timeliness of the restoration efforts.
Mountainview Estate Stage 3 – Innisfail

Cheshire Contractors successfully delivered Stage 3 of Mountainview Estate in Mighell, providing essential infrastructure for 15 new residential allotments. The project involved comprehensive earthworks, retaining wall construction, roadworks, stormwater drainage, and the installation of water, sewer, power, and telecommunication services.
Given the complexity of the works, careful planning and coordination were required to manage site access, erosion control, and traffic safety while ensuring minimal disruption to neighbouring properties. Key elements of the project included the construction of stormwater quality improvement devices, road pavements, footpaths, and landscaping to enhance the estate’s amenity and long-term sustainability.

Project: Construction of Hardstand at the New Southern Barge Ramp
Client: Ports North

Cheshire Contractors were engaged to construct a 10,000m² hardstand at the New Southern Barge Ramp in Portsmith, Cairns. The project involved a range of complex tasks, including geotextile and geogrid installation, pavement construction, and landscaping. The work was performed under stringent compaction and density requirements, ensuring a durable and functional hardstand for future port activities.
The scope of the work included sediment control, installation of select fill and pavement gravel, geotextile and geogrid installation, subgrade compaction, and landscaping with turf and crusher dust. In addition, the access road was tied into the hardstand, and stabilisation works were conducted on the subgrade due to saturation before pavement placement.
Despite the challenges posed by subgrade saturation, Cheshire Contractors completed the project on time. The successful coordination of materials, efficient management of daily deliveries, and adherence to the technical specifications resulted in high client satisfaction, with the Principal praising the quality and timely completion of the work.
Cairns Airport Staff Carpark – Cape Flattery Silica Mine

Cheshire Contractors successfully delivered the Cairns Airport staff carpark project for Cape Flattery Silica Mine within a tight two-week timeframe, despite the challenges posed by wet weather. The project involved reworking and trimming the subgrade, placing a base layer, applying a two-coat bitumen seal, and completing line marking and perimeter fencing.
Throughout the project, we faced the added complexity of coordinating multiple subcontractors. Through effective communication and meticulous planning, we ensured that all teams worked seamlessly together to meet the project’s tight deadline. Despite the weather disruptions, our ability to adapt and collaborate ensured that the carpark was completed on time and to the highest standard.
Wewak & Gray Street Industrial Subdivision – Wangan

Cheshire Contractors successfully delivered the Wewak and Gray Street Industrial Subdivision, constructing six newly aligned industrial allotments with supporting infrastructure. The project involved earthworks, roadworks, stormwater drainage, water reticulation, and underground service conduits to facilitate future development.
A key challenge was maintaining access for existing businesses and tenants operating within the industrial sheds on-site. Additionally, we remained adaptable to potential site conditions, including latent issues such as buried waste, to keep the project progressing efficiently.

The project involved widening the open drain and road pavement, requiring careful coordination to minimise disruptions to the surrounding residential and farming properties. An additional challenge was managing works around an existing Ergon power pole within the new drain footprint, ensuring compliance with all exclusion zones and safety requirements.

Blackman Road Causeway Upgrades – Warrami

Cheshire Contractors successfully delivered the Blackman Road Causeway Upgrades for the Cassowary Coast Regional Council, overcoming significant challenges posed by the wet season, Cyclone Jasper, and localised flooding. Despite these conditions causing delays, the project was completed on budget with no additional costs.
The works involved lowering four causeways and upgrading culvert structures to improve flood resilience and access for the surrounding community. Given the area's active sugar cane farming operations, we carefully managed construction activities to minimise disruption to farm machinery and harvesting schedules.
Our scope included excavation, culvert installation, pavement construction, drainage improvements, and rock batter protection.
